CAN YOU AFFORD 25% CUTS?
• ADMH is facing a proposed 25% funding cut ($39 million shortfall) for FY13
• ADMH will be forced to slash many community programs currently serving 98% of people with mental illnesses, and 100% of people with developmental disabilities and substance use disorders
• Without community programs, people will return to expensive state institutions, become
homeless, and overcrowd emergency rooms and jails
• These cuts will result in more institutional care, which costs the state twice as much as
community-based services
• This is the most serious threat in our lifetime to our state’s ability to provide services to people with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders in Alabama.
To prevent such cuts, we must ACT NOW!
The Alabama Legislature convenes on February 7th, and a budget hearing for the ADMH budget is scheduled for February 22nd at 2:30 P.M. A coalition of mental health, disability and substance abuse organizations is organizing a Legislative Day on February 22nd at 10:30 A.M. in front of the Alabama State House at 11 South Union Street in Montgomery. You are invited to join us for this Legislative Day.
PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND AND WEAR A RED SHIRT IN SUPPORT OF FUNDING.
