ADA/504

Priority: (PADD, PAIMI, PAIR, PATBI, PAAT)

ADAP works to ensure that all persons with disabilities will have access to buildings, services, and programs in the same manner as others, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (504).

Services have included performing investigations, suggesting accessibility improvements, suggesting policy changes, engaging in negotiation and advocacy, pursuing administrative complaints with state and federal enforcement entities, and conducting litigation.

Problems frequently addressed arise from a variety of situations and have involved various types of entities. For example, ADAP addresses problems such as buildings that lack an accessible entrance or restroom or other accessibility feature, failures to provide effective communications, forced institutionalization of persons in nursing homes due to failure to provide appropriate services in the community, failure to provide reasonable modifications for a disability, etc.

Upon request, ADAP frequently provides trainings to various groups regarding the rights guaranteed and protected by ADA/504.
