ADAP works to ensure that persons' rights are not unduly restricted or harmed by guardianships and conservatorships.
Services have included performing investigations, engaging in negotiation and advocacy and, in appropriate circumstances, providing representation in Probate Court and Circuit Court proceedings.
ADAP has successfully prevented guardianships and conservatorships, achieved termination of guardianships and conservatorships, achieved limitation of guardianships and conservatorships, addressed performance issues by guardians and conservators, and ensured the provision of due process in guardianship and conservatorship proceedings. Additionally, ADAP regularly provides trainings to various groups regarding guardianships and conservatorships, their effects on the rights of persons with disabilities, and alternatives to guardianships and conservatorships.
