Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Traumatic Brain Injury (PATBI)
Priority: (PATBI)
ADAP advocates on behalf of persons with acquired or traumatic brain injury who needs assistance in areas that are covered under ADAP's Priorities and Goals. These services include working with children and their families to resolve educational issues, including access to inclusive school settings, discipline and behavior concerns arising from the disability which may impact the child's educational process. ADAP can also assist youth and their families in learning more about Social Security work incentives, and other issues that will affect youth as they transition from school to work or school to higher education.
ADAP's Priorities and Goals also provide the framework for adult services such as assistance for adults with TBI who wish to seek, regain or maintain employment; ensuring that those living in any state operated institution or state certified community group home setting are receiving appropriate and safe treatment where they have the freedom to exercise their choice of services. In accordance with ADAP's Priorities, individuals with TBI may also receive assistance in resolving disputes about lack of access to services, buildings or programs in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and/or the Rehabilitation Act. Individuals who have TBI who receive services under the Home and Community Based Waiver Services such as the SAIL waiver who are at risk of losing services may request assistance with Medicaid.
